A principal of ThompsonMcMullan since 1986, Mr. Malone became associated with ThompsonMcMullan in 1981. Mr. Malone currently serves as president and managing director of the firm. His practice includes representation of businesses and individuals in a wide variety of litigation and dispute resolution matters in state and federal courts, with a significant emphasis on construction litigation. Mr. Malone represents the interests of those involved in the formation of commercial entities, including corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, and joint ventures. Mr. Malone also serves as counsel to these entities after formation, providing ongoing advice on legal matters in many areas.

A native of Alexandria, Virginia, Mr. Malone graduated in 1976 from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. Thereafter, he attended the University of Virginia, from which he received his law degree in 1979. Upon graduation, he accepted employment as a law clerk with the Supreme Court of Virginia, serving for two years, both as clerk to the Chief Staff Attorney and clerk to Justice Richard H. Poff. It was after completion of these clerkships in 1981 that Mr. Malone joined the firm of ThompsonMcMullan.

Mr. Malone is active in a number of charitable organizations in the greater Richmond area. He provides ongoing legal consultation and advice to a number of charitable organizations devoted to homeless services. He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Heart of Virginia Council of the Boy Scouts of America, as well as a number of other organizations.

Mr. Malone is a member of the Virginia State Bar, the Virginia Bar Association, the Bar Association of the City of Richmond, and the Hanover County Bar Association. Mr. Malone has served on the Administration of Justice, Continuing Legal Education, Pro Bono, and Public Relations Committees of the Bar Association of the City of Richmond and formerly served as a member of the Board of Directors of this organization. Mr. Malone also serves as a member of the Board of Directors of the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation. He was named A Leader in the Law by Virginia Lawyers Weekly, was selected for inclusion in 2010 and 2011 Virginia Super Lawyers for Business Litigation,  was named in Virginia Business magazine's 2010 and 2011 Legal Elite and has an AV peer rating in Matrindale Hubbell.
