Mr. Lyne became of counsel to ThompsonMcMullan in 1998, following his retirement as house counsel for Reynolds Metals Company, where he practiced intellectual property.

He is experienced in patents, trademarks, copyrights, and proprietary technology. His patent practice has included preparing and prosecuting patent applications for inventions, managing and maintaining the resulting patent portfolio, and generating royalty income by licensing the patents and the patented technology as well as unpatented technology. He also has worked closely with and counseled management and investors in the development of inventions and technology. These patent and technology matters involved managing litigation, preparing and negotiating license agreements, indemnities, confidentiality agreements, and employment agreements as well as intellectual property aspects of sales and acquisition agreements. Mr. Lyne’s trademark practice focused on protecting trademarks for a range of consumer products. He also handled, and counseled clients with respect to, matters arising from intellectual property of other parties.

Mr. Lyne graduated from The George Washington Law School in 1964. Prior to that, he graduated from North Carolina State University in 1958 with an undergraduate degree in Nuclear Engineering, served as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and was a Patent Examiner in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office while attending law school.

Mr. Lyne is admitted to practice in Virginia and is a member of the Virginia Bar Association, the Richmond Bar Association, the American Intellectual Property Law Association, and the Greater Richmond Intellectual Property Law Association.
