Neil Talegaonkar joined ThompsonMcMullan after graduating from the University of Richmond School of Law in 1999. Prior to law school, he was a legal assistant at Hunton & Williams and served as a Legislative Assistant to the Hon. M. Kirkland Cox, Member of the House of Delegates, in the 1994 Legislative Session.
While in law school, Mr. Talegaonkar was on the Moot Court. He also interned for the Hon. Robert E. Payne, United States District Court for the Eastern District.
As a director with the firm, Mr. Talegaonkar’s practice focuses on commercial litigation and employment law. He has litigation experience in suits dealing with business torts, defamation, first amendment law, construction litigation, covenants-not-to-compete, employment law, and insurance defense and subrogation claims. He frequently advises employers on compliance with various state and federal employment laws, including the ADA, ADEA, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, FLSA, FMLA, and issues surrounding hiring and termination.
Born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England, Mr. Talegaonkar immigrated to the United States with his family in 1974. After graduating from St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, Mr. Talegaonkar received his Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from Tulane University in New Orleans in 1993 where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He is a member of the American Bar Association (section on Labor and Employment), Virginia State Bar, Virginia Bar Association (sections on Litigation and Labor and Employment), and Richmond Bar Association.
