Alternative Dispute Resolution

The Alternative Dispute Resolution practice area is managed by John Thompson, who is a long term member of the American Arbitration Association’s regional panel of commercial arbitrators and also designated and qualified to handle large and complex cases. Members of the firm have been appointed by the Association to serve as an arbitrator in a variety of commercial arbitrations as well as chair these arbitrator panels. Our firm is committed to solving our clients’ problems with the minimum of financial and emotional costs. The depth and breadth of our litigation experience has convinced us that litigation should, in most cases, be the process of last resort for dispute resolution. We have the experience to provide:

  • advice in selecting the appropriate dispute resolution process for the parties, subject matter, and relevant circumstances of a particular dispute;
  • representation in informal mediation in which the parties select an individual in whom each has personal confidence (but who may not be a trained mediator) to mediate the disputes;
  • representation in formal mediation before court-certified mediators;
  • representation in arbitration proceedings before an individual or panel of arbitrators; and
  • advice with respect to dispute resolution mechanisms for inclusion in contractual documents
