Estate Planning & Administration

The Estate Planning and Administration practice area is managed by Hugh T. Antrim. Having served as the acting Commissioner of Accounts for Henrico County, Mr. Antrim is familiar with all aspects and state law requirements of fiduciary administration. Our full range of services in this core practice area include

  • drafting wills and trust agreements (both testamentary and intervivos);
  • preparing general powers of attorney and advance medical directives;
  • probating wills, qualifying personal representatives, and administering estates;
  • preparing estate tax and fiduciary income tax returns;
  • representing clients in chancery litigation; and
  • identifying appropriate planning opportunities for qualified disclaimers.

We are particularly adept at handling unusual litigation often associated with poorly drafted documents, unhappy heirs, and negligent fiduciaries. Our attorneys have both defended and sought to impeach testamentary instruments in will contest cases and litigated the validity of a variety of Medicaid trusts. We have assisted many executors and administrators in seeking the aid and guidance of the courts when appropriate. As the estate planning and administration area often overlaps with elder law and real estate issues, our expertise in these combined areas allows us to offer superior service and judgment to our clients in their planning needs.
