Elder Law Legal Assistant/Paralegal

Overview:

ThompsonMcMullan P.C. is seeking an experienced Elder Law Legal Assistant or Elder Law Paralegal to add to our group in our Midlothian, VA office.

The ideal candidate will have outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, respect for discretion and confidentiality, ability to prioritize, multitask, and meet tight deadlines. Must demonstrate a positive representation of the firm’s commitment to client service and must demonstrate the desire to be an essential part of a busy practice as a team player. Candidates should be detail-oriented and organized, have a good attitude, work ethic, and attention to detail. Strong verbal and accurate written communication skills are essential for this position. Must have relevant experience in Virginia estate planning and administration and references. This position deals with a high volume of work.

Job Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of estate planning or estate administration experience under Virginia law
  • Exceptional writing skills, organization skills, and attention to detail
  • Drafting estate planning documents for attorney approval (wills, revocable trusts, irrevocable trusts, powers of attorney, deeds of gift, etc.)
  • Work in conjunction with elder law team regarding administration of decedent’s estates, trusts, and conservatorships, including preparation for court qualification of fiduciaries, documenting distributions to beneficiaries, and other required probate filings
  • Communicate directly with the Commissioners of Accounts, Conservators, Trustees, Executors/Administrators, beneficiaries, attorneys, accountants, and other advisors
  • Meet and communicate directly with clients on estate planning, estate administration, trust administration, and conservatorship matters
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite required; familiarity with client management databases preferred
  • Willingness to flex as required to meet the need of the hour, including answering phones, screening prospective clients, scheduling appointments, and greeting clients
