ThompsonMcMullan, P.C. is seeking an Elder Law Paralegal with Guardianship experience to join our Shockoe Slip, Richmond, VA office.
The ideal candidate will have experience with paralegal and administrative support in the areas of guardianship law, estate and special needs planning, and elder law. This position serves as a primary point of contact for clients, courts, and other professionals, coordinates case progression from intake through closing, prepares legal documents, court pleadings, and probate filings, maintains accurate case and client records, and ensures timely communication with clients, courts, and other professionals. The role is responsible for maintaining accurate client and matter data in the firm’s case management and contact databases (TABS/Practice Master/NetDocuments) to support efficient workflow and regulatory compliance. The position requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering compassionate, client-focused service to individuals and families navigating sensitive legal matters. This is a full-time, non-exempt, and in-office position. Work hours are 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Monday-Friday with a 30-minute lunch break.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of three years of related work experience in a professional services firm
- Experience drafting estate planning documents and guardianship pleadings with a high degree of accuracy and strong proofreading skills
- Exceptional client service skills, including the ability to communicate with empathy while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality
- Experience with real estate law (deed drafting, title reviews, and ownership/lien searches)
- Experience scheduling and communicating with Clerks’ offices and Judges’ chambers
- Exceptional time management skills, organization skills, and attention to detail
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, document management (NetDocuments), timekeeping/billing software (TABS/Practice Master), and legal and demographic research (LexisNexis or Westlaw)
- Virginia Notary Public commission or willingness to obtain one
- Ability to travel locally, as needed, to client’s homes, hospitals, nursing facilities, or court locations
- Willingness to flex as required to meet the need of the hour
- Lift up to 25 pounds
Salary Range: $55,000 – $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience
