Insurance Regulation

Overview

Because ThompsonMcMullan attorneys are deeply versed in the regulatory rules and procedures of the State Corporation Commission, we are well-equipped to represent clients in most all of Virginia’s regulated industries.

The insurance industry, in particular, is heavily regulated in the Commonwealth under Title 38.2 of the Code of Virginia. Over the years, we have successfully represented both insurance agencies and agents before the SCC’s Bureau of Insurance.

We ensure our clients are compliant with insurance regulation, administration of which is governed by the SCC. We ensure agents and agencies are qualified and conduct their business according to statutory and regulatory requirements, as well as acceptable standards of conduct.

We also represent agents who are investigated by the Bureau of Insurance for potential violations of regulations. Such issues can include misrepresentations or false advertising, improper disclosures, premium reporting and accounting issues, licensure requirements, and other legal responsibilities.
