Overview
Cybersecurity and Data Privacy are at the forefront of the minds of general counsel and their corporate legal departments. They are no longer just buzzwords, but threats that companies need to be aware of and prepared for in order to avoid data breaches. The Cybersecurity group at ThompsonMcMullan is comprised of attorneys with expertise in assisting clients in navigating the data privacy landscape through policy creation, incident response and remediation, and compliance practices. We work with clients throughout the full lifecycle of a breach: policy development and implementation, representation during investigations and litigation, risk management, responding to a breach, drafts of notices, and more.
Our attorneys are experienced in drafting website terms of use and privacy policies and providing relevant counsel to help businesses understand the complexities of incident mitigation and response.
Our Cybersecurity group advises businesses on the management and protection of consumer and employee information through the mitigation of risk and the safeguarding of sensitive information. We work with our clients to ensure their understanding of best information practices and the full lifecycle of data protection issues. Our attorneys ensure our business clients are in compliance with applicable statutes, including the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA), the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and Can-SPAM Act, and Telemarketing Sales Rule and Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA), by determining applicability, preparing or revising online privacy and data policies and notices, advising on responses to consumer requests, and defending against litigation if necessary.
