A first-generation lawyer pursuing a passion for civil litigation
Born and raised in the heart of Alabama, Bryant Crain originally set out on a much different path, earning a degree in Theology and Ministry while playing baseball at Faulkner University. But as he was drawn to new challenges and eager to broaden his perspective, he left home to pursue a career in law, attending the University of Richmond School of Law. His nontraditional journey—grounded in service, listening, and leadership—continues to inform the way he practices today.
During his time in law school, Bryant served as an officer in the Student Bar Association and as an Articles Editor for the University of Richmond Law Review. He was awarded the Glenice B. Coombs Award for Law Review Excellence, presented annually to a single upper-level editor in recognition of distinguished service.
Building on his academic and leadership experiences, Bryant was selected as an extern for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia under the Honorable Henry E. Hudson, where he assisted with case management and opinion drafting in complex federal matters. He also served as an intern with the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Virginia, supporting three circuit judges with research and opinion drafting. His time as a law clerk with Freed & Shepherd, P.C. further exposed him to the demands and rewards of private practice.
Following graduation, Bryant spent a year clerking in the Henrico County Circuit Court, first with the Honorable Randall G. Johnson, Jr. and later with the Honorable John Marshall. Across these roles, he developed a broad perspective on trial practice and sharpened his legal writing through the preparation of memoranda and researching for, and consulting with, the judges on current cases. His experiences in both state and federal courts have cemented his focus on civil litigation as the cornerstone of his career and prepared him to advocate effectively for clients in complex disputes.
As a lifetime athlete, Bryant views litigation much like the sports of his youth, requiring the same preparation, discipline, strategy, and teamwork that once drove him on the field. That team-oriented mindset led him to ThompsonMcMullan, where he values the firm’s culture of mentorship, collaboration, and growth.
Away from work, Bryant enjoys following Alabama Crimson Tide football and cheering on the Kansas City Royals.
