Trusts, Estates, and Elder Law attorney Karen Dunivan Konvicka has been asked to present on a panel at this year’s Virginia Bar Association (VBA) annual winter meeting. Presented by the VBA Law Practice Management Division and the Elder & Special Needs Section, “Strategies and Obligations in Law Firm Succession Planning” will provide attendees with advice on managing their practice, protecting clients, and ensuring business continuity while creating a succession plan. Karen will present alongside Douglas R. Kay with Offit Kurman, Kristina Keech Spittler with Vanderpool, Frostick & Nishanian, P.C., and Tenley Carroll Seli with the Virginia State Bar in a session moderated by Jack Robb with ODEC.
The panel will explore perspectives from large law firms, small and solo firms, in-house legal departments, and compliance professionals. The panel discussion will include topics such as (1) strategies for law firms to attract and retain senior lawyers transitioning to retirement, (2) strategies for senior lawyers to leverage their business and experience as they approach retirement, (3) ethical obligations related to lawyers nearing the end of their practice or when suffering an incapacity, (4) ethical obligations and planning strategies for lawyers in small firms and solo firms, and (5) succession planning practical tips and plan implementation.
