Virginia Solar Survey Report Released

The results of the Virginia Solar Survey, conducted online across all 95 counties and 38 independent cities in the state between July 13 and August 13, 202,1 have been published. The localities received a questionnaire focused on solar readiness, policy, and solar and energy storage experience in order for the Virginia Department of Energy and the Virginia Solar Initiative to gain a better understanding of the barriers local governments and localities face in implementing solar development.

The survey was designed to:

  • Collect and reveal comprehensive regional and statewide solar development trends
  • Understand the perspective of local governments
  • Gather information to better support research, programming, and resources for localities, the solar industry, and others impacted by the growth of this sector

Survey Results

The survey netted an 82% response rate, or completion by 109 out of 133 localities, and all geographic regions of the Commonwealth were represented in the data set. Initial findings and insights are presented in the published report, with a plan to release deeper dives around major topics of interest, in the future.
