Over the last year, both rule and technology changes have helped new appellate practitioners to navigate appeals of right in Virginia. These include liberalization of rules related to Assignments of Error, formalizing the process—and leaving less to chance—for written statement of facts, and more. And perhaps now more than ever, it is important for the appellate practitioner to understand how advances in technology and AI services can help them manage their appellate practice and strategy.
Appellate attorneys John O’Herron and Peter Askin have partnered with VirginiaCLE to discuss all of these changes and more through a presentation on Advances and Trends in Appellate Practice. Scheduled live onsite (with a webinar option) for August 19th, and a replay scheduled for October 7th followed by a live Q&A, the session will explore developing trends in appellate practice, review recent rule and statutory changes for appeals in Virginia, and provide ways in which AI can improve oral argument preparation. The presentation will also discuss the data behind the Virginia Supreme Court’s review of the Court of Appeals of Virginia civil decisions since appellate expansion in January 2022.
