Appellate and litigation partner John O’Herron is presenting alongside Rachel Yates, of Yates Appellate Law, at the Litigation Section CLE and Social hosted by the Richmond Bar Association (RBA). During the session, John and Rachel will walk through rules of civil procedural and appellate procedure applicable in state and federal courts in Virginia, address any recent caselaw updates relevant to these rules, and provide helpful tips and practice pointers on how to avoid waiving objections and arguments in order to preserve them for appeal. The Hon. Claire Cardwell, Presiding Judge for the Richmond City Circuit Court, will serve as the panel moderator and provide her insights and experience on this topic from behind the bench.

Whether you are preparing for a bench trial or a jury trial, it is imperative to know when and how to preserve issues for appeal, as this knowledge may come in handy in the event you receive an unfavorable evidentiary ruling, your expert is excluded, or the jury receives improper instructions. The presentation is open to Litigation Section members of the RBA and will be hosted at the office of local law firm Spotts Fain.
