While our energy attorneys are registered lobbyists, we often leave the handshaking to the pros. Instead, we are the behind-the-scenes subject-matter-experts who are called upon by those lobbyists, sitting alongside them and answering their texts and emails, while guiding our energy clients towards successful legislative action.
We advise government affairs teams on major energy legislation considered by the Virginia General Assembly. Oftentimes, our work is to advocate for greater access to renewable energy and competitive supply. Indeed, over the years, ThompsonMcMullan’s energy lawyers have broadened access to renewable supply for large entities and preserved renewable access for all end-users.
Our Energy Policy and Legislation experience includes:
- Preserving access to renewable supply in a declaratory judgment action that Dominion brought against competitive suppliers
- Defeating Dominion’s attempt to overturn a Virginia State Corporation Commission order that preserved access by large customers to renewable supply
- Defeating multiple attempts by Appalachian Power Company to challenge a CSP’s ability to offer renewable supply to its customers
