Mark H. Miller

Partner

An English major who parlayed his lifelong appreciation for language and writing into a practice focused on transactional work

With nearly three decades of experience exclusively in Virginia, Mark Miller focuses his practice in commercial real estate transactions, with a particular niche in leasing and solar energy development, and on mergers and acquisitions of businesses. Based in Richmond since 1996, he represents real estate developers, investment funds, solar developers, landowners, and purchasers in a wide range of commercial real estate and business law matters, including the acquisition, disposition, and leasing of office, industrial, and development properties, and stock and asset purchases and sales.

Mark’s practice is grounded in a transactional philosophy: helping clients achieve their business objectives efficiently while protecting their interests, without becoming an obstacle to the deal. He values the rhythm and lifecycle of real estate and business transactions—from contract to due diligence to closing—and the familiarity that comes from guiding clients through a complex process that is never quite the same. He also serves as outside general counsel to several local corporations, providing strategic legal guidance across a broad range of business matters.

Over the years, he has also developed a niche in solar through a case referral, where he was introduced to a nuanced practice that allowed him to learn an entirely new industry while still employing his skillset in lease development and legal contracts for solar developers and landowners. Mark also takes pride in his representation of investment funds in their acquisition of businesses and properties to add to their portfolios.

Mark enjoys all manner of sports, especially golf, skiing, squash, and fishing – generally, any activity that gets him outside. And in his downtime, you can find him with a good book and an interesting movie.
